Who We Are
Founded in 2008, GlobeMed at UCLA is one of 55 GlobeMed chapters working to improve the health of people living in poverty around the world. We partner with the Mpoma Community HIV/AIDS Initiative in south central Uganda. Together, we are working on a Water access, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) program.
Our Partner – Mpoma Community HIV/AIDS Initiative // Lukojjo, Uganda
Mpoma Community HIV/ AIDS Initiative, located in Lukojjo, Uganda, was founded in 1999 by a group of people infected or affected by HIV/AIDS. Today, Mpoma aims to empower the community members to improve their own well-being through education and healthcare initiatives. The current projects include Family Planning Outreaches (condom and contraception distribution), HIV Testing, Malaria Prevention (distribution of malaria nets), and Food Security and Nutrition Programs (food growth). Additionally, Mpoma is partnered with other organizations including the Segal Family Foundation, Komo Learning Center, Global Health Corps, Niguro Teenage Center, and Kyetune Community Based Health Care Program.
