Nikh is a first year undecided life science major here at UCLA. As a part of the development team, Nikh will help GlobeMed at UCLA expand its horizons and increase its network into the Los Angeles area. But first, he gives us an inside look at the bonding that went down in Malibu State Creek Park!
This past weekend was Globemed UCLA’s fall camping retreat at Malibu State Park!
After a 40-minute drive from the urban UCLA campus in Westwood, members found themselves soaking in the serene views of Malibu State Park. The venue served as an ideal location to bond as a team.
Just some of the awesome retreat activities included:
Putting up tents- luckily we had neuroscience majors with us for this incredibly daunting task. This activity may have taken slightly longer than anticipated, lets just leave it at that.
Globemed Quilt- we made a quilt complete with inspirational global health quotes, our thoughts on partnership, and lots of GlobeMed love.
A game of “move your booty”- an icebreaker similar to musical chairs, where we discovered the similarities we have with one another while also seeing how diverse our group is. This game revealed shocking facts about certain e-board members.
Campfire stories and S’mores- countless stories were shared near the warmth of the campfire. As the night went on, there was a number of golden brown marshmallows made for s’mores and a total of 1 roasted, singing apple (courtesy of JB)
It’s safe to say that the retreat was a success as members really got to get to know each other. Personally, I feel privileged to be part of an extraordinarily talented, passionate group of people, and I cannot wait to see the positive impact and change we bring to the world this year.
